I don’t really know, a medical doctor would be the best person to answer this question. However, as far as I know, chemotherapy tries to kill the cancer cells, or stop them growing at least.

Cancer is when your own cells are growing and dividing much more often than they should, so lots of chemotherapy drugs are aimed at slowing down the growth and division of cells. Unfortunately, these drugs often can’t tell the difference between cancer cells and normal cells, and so slows them all down, which can make you feel very ill.

The chemotherapy targets cancer cells and stops them from reproducing, preventing the cancer growing and spreading. Some healthy cells will also be affected, which can cause some negative side effects.
