It is essentially a collapsed star where all the mass and been crushed to a point where the mass is so massive that the gravity prevents light escaping and anything else.
Because the force of gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape from a black hole. However we can work out that they’re there, because of their effects on the things we can see.

@JJ They’re invisible because their gravity is soooo strong that it’s pulling EVERYTHING into it – even light!
