I really regret worrying about what other kids thought of me. It’s good to consider what others think, but not to the extent of hating yourself because people call you a “nerd” – like that’s even a bad thing!

I wish I’d done History A-level instead of Chemistry. I really enjoyed History at school, and in fact it has a lot in common with science: you combine pieces of evidence to try and understand something.

I regret not doing art and also choosing a subject that I thought my family wanted me to do rather then what I wanted to do, hence why I dropped art.

Music GCSE. I wasn’t very good at it and I wished I had done something that’s more useful to me now, like another language

I wish I’d studied harder at maths, I started the A-Level but wound up dropping the subject because I found it too hard and so didn’t concentrate during the lessons. I know now that if I’d tried harder it would have started getting easier, and it would make some aspects of my PhD much easier!

I was also worried about people thinking I was a nerd or a dork, so there were a few things I never had the courage to do which I know I would have enjoyed.
