I’m not an expert on this. However as far as I know, it would be billions of pounds. The problem is governments don’t want to spend this much money on something which doesn’t make a difference to peoples’ everyday lives, so instead it’s private companies who are trying to raise the money and devlop the technology.
It would defiantly be in the billions. Just for the technology requires to keep the people alive for the duration. Then it would be more if you needed to send supplies and technologies for the people to stay and live on Mars.
Depends on how in the future you look (and how optimistic you are!)

The first few times, like Kathryn said, will be in the billions, but over time, hopefully like with anything, it will get cheaper because we’ll have more experience and make things more efficient.

Elon Musk (have you heard about the car that was sent to Mars? – that was done by him) even claims that one day it will cost as little as buying a house – but then again, he is known to be VERY optimistic!
