By increasing the time I spend doing sport (in particular running) steadily and buying new trainers when the cushioning in them has run out.

I have an old knee injury that flares up from time to time. I now know the signs when it will go again so I use a knee support sometimes other times I do less intensive things. I have stopped running recently because it flared up again and started working out at the gym more. It threated to go while playing badminton the other day so I having a break from that now too. More gym time.

My knees used to hurt a lot when I went running – turns out I had completely the wrong shoes for running!

Wearing the correct footwear can help. I used to have a bad knee but this has got better since I got customised running shoes made for me, so that my feet and legs are cushioned when I land.

Stretching beforehand and a proper warm up used to help me!
